Upfit Guide

Commercial buyers shopping for a work truck don't think in chassis specs. They think in jobs: towing, hauling, transporting, responding. The gap between knowing what you need to do and knowing which RAM would support it was wide enough that most buyers arrived at a dealership without a clear picture of either.

The matching problem had real depth. Ambulance upfits require specific electrical capacity and compartment mounting configurations. Dump truck bodies run off hydraulic systems that have to be compatible with the chassis power takeoff. Tow trucks have payload ratings that depend on what they're expected to recover. Each upfit type carries its own set of constraints, none of which a commercial buyer is expected to know going in.

The configurator started with the job, not the vehicle. Buyers selected an upfit type, then worked through size, payload, and drivetrain requirements. Each choice narrowed the field. At the end, the tool returned a matched set of RAM chassis and surfaced nearby dealers carrying them. Buyers arrived at the dealership with their requirements already defined. The tool shipped on ram.com.
